Problem (Unavailable for Scheduled Maintenance)
Sometimes when you update plugins on your WordPress.org based site you might get the following error:
Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.
Or you might have visited your website dashboard and seen the same error message. This can cause panic when you first see it, however it’s usually harmless and easy to fix.
How to Fix
- Backup your website (database and files) – recommended
- FTP or remote login to your web server. In the web root directory there should be a file called
.maintenance
. - Delete the file
- Refresh your website dashboard in your web browser (e.g. refresh http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/wp-admin/)
- Update your plugins again (or do whatever you were doing before this happened). I usually update one plugin at a time at this stage
Let me know in the comments whether this worked or not. If it didn’t let me know what else you’ve tried.
